Gig News: Katy B, Emeli Sande, Jess Mills and Annie Lennox celebrate women at The Festival Hall

Very surprised there are still plenty tickets left for what should be a rather special night at The Royal Festival Hall on Friday.  Starlets from the present, Emeli Sande and Katy B are joined by national treasures in Annie Lennox and Jess Mills for a celebration of women in music.

The show, called Equals, kicks starts a week long celebration at the Southbank for International Women’s Day on 8th March.  Friday’s gala show promises to be something quite special… the only problem is the price.

I fear, the reason so many tickets are left unsold at the moment is down to a pricing issue.  The cheapest seats start at £35, and then go up £50+ for the better seats.  As great as the show may be, those prices will keep people away unfortunately.  That is shame because there is so much promise and potential in the show.

I really think more consideration should be made to pricing when shows as important as this, both culturally and socially, come along.  Pricing should be as inclusive as possible so that great messages and inspiration can be spread to those who need it most.

If you have savings, or can fork out the premium prices (I know I can’t) tickets are available from the Southbank website.

If you go, let me know how it was because I think it’ll be a great night

Gig review (no pictures): Krystle Warren at Meltdown Festival, Purcell Rooms (14/06/2010)

Due to the rather draconian rules at the Purcell Room in the Queen Elizabeth Hall not allowing photography I wasn’t going to post anything but after a show that good I had to say a few words.

It had the feel of something special from start to finish, it was beautiful, heart breaking and captivating.  Krsytle kept on saying how nervous she was, it didn’t show in her music though which was blessed… the special guests were masterfully selected (highlight being Teddy Thompson and Ms. Warren singing King of the Road together) but never  once did they come close to out-shining the lady of the moment.

The nervous jokes added personality and the seemingly random and disorganized set added charm. I never knew one lady, a guitar, a voice like crumpled cotton (and a few guests) could create such a show.

I thinik this may have been on of those rare moments when everything just came together; that mixture of nerves for a big show and adrenaline bringing out the best collided to make one of those shows she’ll never repeat and always aspire to.  I could have watched her all night…

Gig of the year so far and it’ll take a lot of beating!
