Gig news: postponed Raheem DeVaughn gig now in September

The Neo-Soul-Superstar-Rockstar-Hippie (or whatever he is calling himself these days) was due to play the Jazz Cafe in June, however the gig was ‘postponed’ a couple of days prior.

My theory is that the promoters were a little upset at slow ticket sales (we bought our tickets with about two weeks to go and got numbers 36-38!).

The new shows will be as follows;

  • 16th June will now take place 29th September
  • 17th June will now take place 30th September

Both will still take place at the Jazz Café.  Tickets are still available at £17.50 (+ fees) and available from Ticketmaster – here

If the gig was postponed because of poor sales its a real shame because Raheem Devaughn is a serious talent (even if he does annoyingly talk on records in his supposedly super sexy voice!) as his third album, The Love and War Masterpeice, proves (both the great singing and the annoying “talks”).

Like Eric Roberson, Raheem is one of those artists those in the know treasure and rave about, however this side of the Atlantic they remain somewhat of a ‘best kept secret.’

I’m expecting a show full of some serious neo-soul swagger and a lot of creativity as he flexes his ‘hippie-rock ‘n’ roll muscles (whatever that is)!’  His albums are predominantly slow so it should be fun to see how he alters these for the live set to inject more spark.

Glad this one did get re-scheduled (and not just cancelled) because it’ll has all the ingredients for an exciting show… even if I do have to endure his random chatting… let’s just hope he doesn’t turn into Musiq and wear Sunglasses all night!
