Amy Lynn & The Gunshow – Remember (Walking In The Sand)
It is always a good day when I discover new music by Amy Lynn & The Gunshow, and their latest record, Remember (Walking In The Sand), is no disappointment. The raw soul-laden funk evident much of their music is here as well as new found sense of purpose. This is definitely one of the most polished records I have heard from the New York band who have been a joy to see develop over the last few years.
Finally, an album is on the horizon for Amy Lynn & The Gunshow and since seeing them play live was added to the bucket list a few years back 2014 just might be the time to re-visit NYC… just need to speak to the Bank Manager (and if the Knicks started to win again that’d make things a bit better too!).
Tara Priya – Kiss Somebody Else
Less new music, more new discovery, Tara Priya is a little gem. Glamorou0s and absorbing retro-soul with horns and backing vocals warm enough to melt butter. Sweet, sweet record.
Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings – Goldfinger
If one person was to cover Shirley Bassey you’d hope it would be Sharon Jones and her Dap Kings. She does a solid job on on of the biggest records of all time. Wholly respectful of the original too. Fantastic job!
Eric Roberson – Anymore
“Brand new Erro joint for you… enjoy”.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. The king of Neo-Soul has returned with an album of B-Sides and features (and a sprinkle of new music). This guy has provided pure joy for over a decade, long may his reign continue! That said… he should really forget about the rapping and focus more on the singing 🙂
