Food: Strawberry & Almond smoothie

Felt like trying something new today, and a good friend had recently mentioned you can put nuts in a smoothie.  To me that sounded a bit, ‘nuts’ however I thought I’d give it a go this morning.

This one definitely has an unusual taste as the strawberry add some sweetness yet the almonds leave a nutty after-taste which provides quite a contrast when drinking.

By the way, never judge a book by its cover nor a smoothie by its colour!

Ingredients

  • 8-10 strawberries
  • A small handful of almonds
  • A handful of spinach
  • About 150ml of Almond milk
  • A splash of cranberry juice
  • 4-5 ice-cubes

Method

Blend everything together.  I was surprised at how easily the almonds blended up actually thought they would provide more trouble.

  1. Great idea, with spinach – another way to get leafy greens down the gullet. Say, why do you opt for almonds rather than almond butter? Didn’t the almost make it a little grainy? Did you soak the almonds beforehand?
As I posted today, I have been on a peanut butter smoothie kick of late, but my in-laws still said I look to have lost wait! Maybe I am just blessed with a high metabolism. Anyway, let me know your thoughts. Thanks !

    1. I opted for almonds because Almond Butter is incredible difficult to find in my local area. I didn’t soak the almonds beforehand just popped them in the blender. It was slightly grainy however it still went down nice and smoothly and I hardly noticed it. I did have to blend it a bit longer than usual though.

I’m slowly developing a peanut butter addiction so will be trying your recipe soon.
