I’m starting to think L.A. Witch (not so) secretly love The Bay. I first saw them play on their first trip to San Francisco just over a year ago. It was a typically cold, and foggy San Franciscan Sunday night; Brick and Mortar was mildly brimming with people. Hipsters, Legends, Students and the odd curious soul like myself. I liked nonchalant fierceness in their music and the set lived long in the memory.
They’ve been back to The Bay more than a few times since then and it turns out it was not just me taking notice of the three piece post-punk band from L.A., because at the start of June they went on tour with The Kills. A tour which took them to Oakland’s Fox Theater.
There was no pretentiousness as they took stage, subtle smiles betrayed the strong, don’t give a fuck exterior. This was a band enjoying a moment while trying their best to be cool about it. They grew in to the set delivered each song with a punching verve as the audience grew in to their sound at the same pace. A few L.A. Witch tees in the audience confirmed the love Northern Cali has for the band.
Luckily Sade, Irita ad Elle are back in The Bay twice over the coming weeks for two slots alongside The Coathangers and The Abigails respectively. Getting a taste of the magic they brew is highly recommended, this is a band you should be paying attention to!
